Big Rig Collision Blocks Traffic and Injures Several People

On Thursday, May 29th seven people were injured in a big rig and car collision. Four of those injured people were children. The accident happened on the Westbound Interstate 10. According to the California Highway Patrol the collision happened around 5:15 in the evening.

According to the News, a lane of the westbound traffic along the Interstate 10 was block due to the crash.

According to Jennifer Fuhrman, a Riverside County fire spokeswoman, seven people were injured and were sent to the hospital after the crash. One of the injured has serious injuries.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the big rig flipped which briefly trapped the driver inside of the truck. The powdered concrete from the back of the big rig had spilled into the roadway which blocked some of the far right lane of traffic. Traffic was backed up for at least a quarter-mile.

The Highland Springs offramp was closed so that the emergency crews could remove the debris.

Since 2011, Large Truck crashes have increased by at least two percent.  According to truckcrashes.com in fatal crashes that involve a large truck and one that has a passenger that ninety-eight percent of those people that are killed are actually the passenger in the truck.
