Deputy Gets Hit on Fourth of July

According to the police, On the fourth of July, a forty-two year old man was arrested after he allegedly hit a deputy with his truck on a residential street in the Fillmore area.

According to the news release from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, A resident from Fillmore, Ruben Cendejas Estrada has been charged with an assault with a deadly weapon, hit and run, and driving under the influence.

On Friday, deputies responded to a disturbance call in the 600 block of Manzanita Drive. There were two separate callers that reported a man driving a red pickup truck. The press release stated ” up and down the street, challenging people to a fight”

The police authorities said that Estrada had left his vehicle and became involved in physical altercation at the scene.

Truck Driver Gets Violent at Scene

According to the Sheriff’s Department, One of the deputies had tried to remove the man from the pickup, The man then shifted the truck into drive and then accelerated forward. The action pushed the deputy against the patrol car and then onto its hood.

According to the release the suspect then drove away and the pursuit started. During the chase the male suspect then “directed his truck toward a responding patrol unit, nearly missing it”.

The pickup collided with another vehicle before stopping in a nearby alley, after which the suspect fled the scene on foot. The male suspect was later located at his home and arrested.

The deputy that was pushed onto the hood of his patrol car was later transported for Ventura County Medical Center, where he was then treated and released.

On Saturday Estrada was released from custody. He is now scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on Friday.
